QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE | Holder of Master degree in Library or Information Studies or Library and Information Science with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5 and a Bachelor Degree in Library or Information Studies or Library and Information Science with a Minimum GPA of 3.8 out of 5 in the First Degree from any recognized University. |

Job Summary: Assistant Librarian
Position Overview:
The Assistant Librarian plays a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of a library and ensuring that library services run smoothly. This position involves assisting with the management and organization of library collections, providing customer service to library users, and supporting various educational and informational programs. The Assistant Librarian works under the supervision of the Head Librarian or Library Director and contributes to the overall success and efficiency of the library.
Key Responsibilities:
- Library Operations: Assist in the daily operations of the library, including the circulation of books and other materials, handling checkouts and returns, and managing overdue notices.
- Cataloging and Classification: Aid in cataloging and classifying library materials, ensuring that resources are accurately categorized and easily accessible for users.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to library patrons by answering inquiries, assisting with research, and guiding users in locating materials.
- Program Support: Support and facilitate library programs and events, such as reading programs, workshops, and educational activities for various age groups.
- Collection Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance and organization of library collections, including shelving books, managing inventory, and performing routine cleaning and repairs of materials.
- Technology Assistance: Help patrons with the use of library technology, including computers, printers, and digital resources. Provide basic troubleshooting support for library equipment.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative duties such as processing new acquisitions, maintaining records, and preparing reports as required.
- Outreach and Promotion: Contribute to the promotion of library services and programs through social media, newsletters, and community outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, or a related field is typically required. A Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) may be preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a library setting is desirable but not always required. Familiarity with library systems, cataloging practices, and customer service is beneficial.
- Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Proficiency with library software and technology is important.
