The Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPF) has announced the start of a recruitment exercise for Tanzanian youth to join the army, targeting graduates from Form Four to higher education.
The announcement was made on April 30, 2025 by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations of the JWTZ, Colonel Gaudentius Ilonda, in Dodoma, where he noted that all applicants must have a national identity card (NIDA), good health and not have a criminal record.
The required youth are those who have completed the training of the Nation Building Force (JKT) in accordance with the law or with a volunteer contract, and have not served in the Police Force, Prisons, Training College or the Anti-Smuggling Force. In terms of age, secondary education applicants must be no older than 24 years, diploma holders 26 years, degree holders 27 years, while specialist doctors are allowed up to 35 years.
In addition, the rare professions required are General Surgeon, Orthopedic Surgeon, Urologist Radiologist, ENT Specialist, Anaesthesiologist, Physician, Ophthalmologist, Paediatrician, Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Ocologist, Pathologist, Psychiatrist, Emergency Medicine Specialist and Haematologist. With Medical Doctor, Dental Doctor, Veterinary Medicine, Bio Medical Engineer, Dental Laboratory Technician, Anaesthetic, Radiographer, Optometry, Physiotherapy and Aviation Doctor.
Engineering majors include Bachelor of Electronic Engineering, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor in Marine Engineering, Bachelor in Marine transportation & Nautical Science, Bachelor in Mechanic in Marine Diesel Engine, Bachelor in Aviation Management, Bachelor in Aircraft Accident & Incident Investigation, Bachelor in Meteorology, Air Traffic Management & Aeronautic Engineering not to mention Aluminum Welding and Welding & Metal Fabrication.
Likewise, applications should be handwritten and sent to the JWTZ headquarters, Dodoma from May 1 to May 14, 2025, with all necessary documents such as birth certificate, academic certificates, copy of national identity card or NIDA number, JKT certificate (for graduates), and the applicant’s phone number.
