HESLB Executive Director Dr. Bill Kiwia has said that the National Identification Number (NIN) will be mandatory for applying for a loan for the next academic year. “We expect to open the loan application window in June, 2025… for the 2025/2026 academic year, the National Identification Number (NIN) will be a mandatory requirement for loan applications”, said Dr. Kiwia.
He said this today, May 16, 2025, at a meeting of the Higher Education Student Loans Board (HESLB), the National Identification Authority (NIDA) and journalists at the HESLB Eastern Zone offices in Dar es Salaam with the aim of informing the public about starting a collaboration to provide identification numbers (NIN) to students who expect to join universities for the 2025/2026 academic year. For his part, the Director General of NIDA, Mr. James Kaji, said that NIDA is ready to serve all students who expect to join universities and apply for loans from HESLB by providing them with identification numbers on time and therefore students should arrive at NIDA offices early to be provided with identification numbers.
Regarding simplifying services for applicants for national identification numbers, Mr. Kaji said NIDA has improved services through the internet and emphasized that applicants for national identification numbers should log on to the NIDA website using the link https://eonline.nida.go.tz to submit their applications.
